L’Oréal veteran takes CEO post at Topix; CMO installed for Derma E.
January 23, 2019
By: Christine Esposito
Topix Pharmaceuticals and its subsidiary Derma E have made two critical executive-level appointments. Topix Pearlier this month named Brenda Wu as its president and CEO, adding these esponsibilities to her existing role as president and CEO of Topix-owned skincare brand Derma E. Wu joins Topix after more than a decade of success at L’Oréal, where she led trusted brands such as SkinCeuticals, Giorgio Armani Beauty, Lancôme and Kiehl’s. At L’Oréal, Wu served as US general manager of SkinCeuticals. Prior to L’Oréal, Wu led teams in retail merchandising at Banana Republic, digital marketing at AOL Time Warner and strategy consulting at Bain & Company. Wu will lead Topix, which is backed by New Mountain Capital, an investment firm that currently manages more than $20 billion in assets, into its next phase of growth. “I am thrilled and honored to join Topix as president and CEO,” commented Wu. “Topix was built on a foundation of the most advanced research and development and clinically proven formulas that are tested and customized for dermatologists. I look forward to furthering our mission of developing cutting-edge technologies, building our physician partners’ unique brands and helping physicians build their own businesses. I am excited to be working with the Topix team to take the business to new heights.” Today, the company announced that Barbara Roll, former SVP of marketing, has been appointed chief marketing officer for Derma E, a new position created specifically for her. The move is effective immediately. Roll has spent the last thee years at Derma E leading a complete rebrand and repackaging of the brand’s facial and skincare lines, as well as a re-launch of the brand’s digital capabilities while building a recognized leading influencer program and fast-growth social marketing platform. Prior to joining Derma E in 2016, Roll spent time at Jafra Cosmetics International as their global VP of marketing. She is also an entrepreneur at heart, having spent the last 20 years building and selling her own companies in the wellness and beauty space. “Barbara has an exceptional track record and is a proven leader, dedicated to her team and the ongoing innovation and growth of the Derma E brand,” commented Wu. “We are so excited to support Barbara as she leads the Derma E brand development and expands it reach and engagement in her new role as chief marketing officer.”
